MedicalResearch.com: What is the background for this study? What are the main findings?

Response: Previous studies have shown common genotypes, clinical course, and immunological features shared by psoriasis and inflammatory bowel disease.

However, the relationship between psoriasis and inflammatory bowel disease was largely unclear.

In this study, we found when compared to the general population, psoriatic patients are more likely to have concomitant inflammatory bowel disease.

MedicalResearch.com: What should readers take away from your report?

Response: Patients with psoriasis should be informed about the increased risk of inflammatory bowel disease. Gastroenterology consultation is indicated for psoriatic patients presenting with bowel symptoms for example ,chronic diarrhea, abdominal pain, rectal bleeding, and body weight loss.

MedicalResearch.com: What recommendations do you have for future research as a result of this work?

Response: We found only one study that looked at the association between psoriasis and inflammatory bowel disease in Asians. Therefore we consider more relevant studies on ethnic groups other Caucasians are needed.

We have no conflicts of interest.
