Some Immune Cells Avoid Aging Until 60

MedicalResearch.com: What is the background for this study? What are the main findings?

Response: From genome-wide expression analyses, the B lymphocytes avoid the aging until 60 years of age. We did not found any gene expression differences between young (30-45 years) and early aged healthy donors (50-60 years).

Our results demonstrate the potential of hematopoietic stem cells to generate uncompromised B lymphocytes in early elderly.

These are very encouraging findings for general health, because the immunity maintenance does not seem to need artificial intervention to keep B lymphocytes uncompromised in the early elderly.

MedicalResearch.com: What should readers take away from your report?

Response: Aging is a natural and inevitable process. Nevertheless decline of immunity in early elderly should now be considered much more as a reflection of the whole body aging rather than aging program of hematopoietic stem cells within the bone marrow. The decline of immunity in early elderly might be linked rather to compromised body condition, reduced immune cell stimulation, immune cell population disorders, clonal cell accumulations, infection history, life style and other individual behaviour contributing cumulatively to early onset of aging.

MedicalResearch.com: What recommendations do you have for future research as a result of this study?

Response: The immune system decline could not be addressed to natural healthy aging of B lymphocytes or their precursors, hematopoietic stem cells.

Leukocyte development, expansion, commitment and maturation “under aged body condition” might be the most crucial pathological events in immune system decline, which we are facing in elderly and which demands intensive research.
