MedicalResearch.com: What is the mission of the GO2 Foundation for Lung Cancer?

Response: GO2 Foundation for Lung Cancer’s mission is to transform survivorship by  saving, extending, and improving the lives of those vulnerable, at risk, and diagnosed with lung cancer.

MedicalResearch.com: Are lung cancer patients at increased risk of infection, in particular from the COVID-19 virus?

Response: We do not have data that indicates that patients with compromised lung function would get the virus at a higher rate. However, there is concern that individuals with compromised lung function – such as current lung cancer patients and survivors – could have complications if they were to get infected with the virus. GO2 Foundation recently launched a webpage that provides FAQs and resources that lung cancer patients can refer to for more information on staying safe and healthy during this pandemic.

MedicalResearch.com:  How can lung cancer patients protect themselves from this and other infections?

Response: We encourage everyone to avoid travel and stay home unless it is for medical appointments (after calling and confirming with your doctor first), to get groceries, prescriptions, or other necessary supplies. In general, follow best practices for public health, such as avoiding contact with other people, hand-washing with soap and water for 20 seconds (or using a hand sanitizer), and respiratory etiquette including covering the mouth and nose during sneezing and coughing. Many of the steps you would take to protect yourself from catching the flu also apply for protecting yourself against COVID-19.

On March 17, GO2 Foundation hosted a Lung Cancer Living Room with lung cancer experts that focused on coronavirus and what it means for the lung cancer community. We will continue to host Living Rooms that ensures the lung cancer community stays informed and safe.
