MedicalResearch.com: What is the background for this study? What are the main findings?

Response: We have shown that sauna bathing is associated with a variety of health benefits, based on a large population study.

Using an experimental setting this time, the research group now investigated the physiological mechanisms through which the heat exposure of sauna may explain positive effects on cardiovascular system.

MedicalResearch.com: What should clinicians and patients take away from your report?

Response: Visiting a radiant health sauna could be an additional tool to prevent cardiovascular diseases (in addition exercise, diet etc). This is a way which is positive and people like it, instead of saying that you are not allowed to eat something, or you should reduce body weight. Health promoting has many negative sounds, but sauna could prove a more positive option to improve health and prevent diseases

MedicalResearch.com: What recommendations do you have for future research as a result of this study?

Response: We need to explore further possible mechanisms explaining the protective effect of sauna on cardiovascular health such as decreased inflammation, improved cardio-metabolic risk profile, and improved cardiac autonomic function (=decreased body and mind stress).

MedicalResearch.com: Is there anything else you would like to add?

Response: We want to improve well-being in population. Still further studies are needed around sauna benefits for both men and women. One very positive way is to do firstly exercise and then sauna (after exercise)…it will be very healthy and relaxing!
