Hair has never really been separate from style. A change in cut can alter the proportions of a face. A different texture can completely shift a silhouette. Braids, fades, locs, curls, colour, extensions and close crops all communicate something before an outfit has even entered the conversation.

That is why changes in hair can feel surprisingly significant. When density begins to change, a hairline moves or a familiar style stops sitting in quite the same way, it is rarely experienced as a purely biological event. It changes how someone understands their appearance.
