Severe pelvic pain can affect work, sleep, exercise, relationships, and daily life. Yet some people are told that their ultrasound or MRI looks normal. This result can feel confusing, especially when the symptoms are strong and keep returning.

A normal scan does not mean the pain is not real. Imaging is useful, but it has limits. Some health problems are easier to see than others, and certain forms of endometriosis may not appear clearly on standard imaging. Current guidance states that negative imaging does not fully rule out endometriosis, especially shallow disease on the lining of the pelvis.
