The Challenges of Oral Supplementation

Oral supplements must pass through the digestive system, where their absorption can be compromised. Some research suggests that the bioavailability of oral magnesium can be as low as 30–40%. Vitamin B12 absorption can be hindered in individuals with digestive issues or low intrinsic factor, while vitamin D absorption is often dependent on fat intake and gut health, further complicating the process.
