Your GC ran clean calibration curves on Monday, and by Thursday the late-eluting peaks are tailing and the internal standard response has drifted. Nothing about the column changed. The sample matrix did its work on the inlet instead.

The inlet is where every injection lands first, so it collects the residue, septum particles and active sites that slowly bend your data. In a medical research lab, where methods are validated and results may support a study or publication, inlet care can't be left to whoever notices a bad chromatogram. It needs a plan built around each method and the samples it sees.
