When people look into addiction treatment, two terms come up often: trauma-informed care and trauma-focused therapy. They sound alike, but they mean different things.

The difference matters when choosing care. A program may use respectful, trauma-informed practices without offering a specific PTSD therapy. Knowing what each term means helps patients and families ask clearer questions about the support available.
