MedicalResearch.com: What are the main findings of the study?

Dr. Gang Hu: There is a U-shaped or inverse association between BP and the risk of CHD, and aggressive BP control (BP<120/70 mmHg) is associated with an increased risk of CHD among both African American and white patients with diabetes.

MedicalResearch.com: Were any of the findings unexpected?

Dr. Gang Hu:  Uncontrolled BP increased risk of CHD is what’s expected, while aggressive BP control can increased risk of CHD may be somewhat unexpected.

MedicalResearch.com: What should clinicians and patients take away from your report?

Dr. Gang Hu:  We should pay attention not only to the harm of uncontrolled blood pressure but the aggressively controlled blood pressure.

MedicalResearch.com: What recommendations do you have for future research as a result of this study?

Dr. Gang Hu:  Further study is needed about other macrovascular disease outcome, such as heart failure, stroke, amputation.
