MedicalResearch.com: What is the background for this study? What are the main findings?
Response: Until recently Athletic Hip and Pelvis disorders and the appropriate treatment strategies have not received the same attention as other sports related disorders. There is significant overlap between intra-articular and extra-articular hip disorders that make this a challenging area of sports medicine from a diagnosis and treatment standpoint.
MedicalResearch.com: What should readers take away from your report?
Response: A thorough history, physical examination, and appropriate imaging allows for an accurate diagnosis of hip and pelvis athletic related injuries. An accurate diagnosis allows for the best possible management with regards to appropriate subspecialist referral and various surgical and nonsurgical treatment options in order to optimize recovery and minimize time away from athletics.
MedicalResearch.com: What recommendations do you have for future research as a result of this study?
Response: Ultimately, we need better data on the outcomes of such treatments not only with regards to returning to sports but the long term functional outcomes and long term durability of various surgical and nonsurgical treatments for hip and pelvis athletic related injury / pathology.
Disclosures: I am a consultant for Smith and Nephew and A3 surgical and have stock options in A3 surgical
