Medical Research: What is the background for this study? What are the main findings?
Dr. Li: Sleeping difficulty is a common disorder but always lack of attention from both the patients and physicians. Our study finds that women with sleeping difficulty is associated with a higher risk of type 2 diabetes.
Medical Research: What should clinicians and patients take away from your report?
Dr. Li: Women with sleeping difficulty, especially when also having other sleep conditions, should be aware of potential higher risk of diabetes.
Medical Research: What recommendations do you have for future research as a result of this study?
Dr. Li:
(1)The mechanism of why and how sleeping difficulty increases the risk of type 2 diabetes;
(2) Whether sleep difficulty also increases risk of cardiovascular diseases and other chronic diseases, especially among diabetic patients;
