Response: There is a controversy in the medical literature regarding the possible association between infertility or infertility treatments, and the long-term offspring neoplasm risk: while some studies have found such an association, others have not.
Since the number of offspring conceived following treatments are growing, and as they age, it is critical to clarify this possible association.

MedicalResearch.com: What are the main findings?

Response: Infertility treatments (specifically In vitro fertilization, IVF), were associated with an increased risk for overall neoplasm or malignancies.

MedicalResearch.com: What should readers take away from your report?

Response: The association found in this study, regarding infertility treatment and long-term neoplasm risk, are troubling. Additional studies are recommended to possibly clarify this association, and before consulting couples initiating infertility treatments regarding this possible risk. It should also be kept in mind that pediatric neoplasms are still very rare.

MedicalResearch.com: What recommendations do you have for future research as a result of this study?

Response: Additional studies are recommended to add to the knowledge on this possible association. Future studies should be with a long follow-up time and data on infertility treatment intensity and duration.
