MedicalResearch.com: What is the background for this study?
Response: Hypertension is a major public health problem affecting more than 1 billion people worldwide. And it is the leading cause of mortality and disability globally. Startlingly, more than half of people with elevated blood pressure were unaware of their hypertensive status in numerous surveys, partly owing to hypertension rarely shows symptoms in the early stages. Hence, hypertension is a silent killer.
MedicalResearch.com: What are the main findings?
Response: In contrast to upper-body obesity, lower-body obesity exhibited a favorable metabolic profile. And a small thigh circumference was associated with an increased risk of diabetes and cardiovascular diseases. Therefore, this study aimed to explore the relationship between thigh circumference and blood pressure. A cross-sectional study among 9,520 individuals aged 40 years and older was conducted. Then, we found that large thigh circumference is significantly and independently associated with a lower prevalence of hypertension in overweight and obese individuals.

Response: Our findings highlight the importance of paying more attention to overweight and obese individuals with small thigh circumference (thin legs) in the early identification and precise prevention of hypertension and cardiometabolic disorders.
MedicalResearch.com: What recommendations do you have for future research as a result of this work?
Response: I think we should be brave to question in the future scientific research, look at the problem dialectically, diligent in practice, and cannot take it for granted in future research.
