MedicalResearch.com: What is the background for this study? What are the main findings?
Response: We chose to look at hip fractures because is the most common reason for urgent surgery complications have be tied to wait times (and in particular wait times greater than 24 hours).

Response: The main findings are that 2/3rds of patients do not receive surgery within the recommended time window (24 hours) and that whether they receive surgery mostly depends on which hospital they are taken to.

Response: More operating room resources are needed and physician / hospital cultural practices need to change (for example, avoiding unnecessary preoperative tests).
